Discover some of the most iconic sites in Val d'Orcia, the region of Tuscany famous worldwide for its rolling hills lined with cypress trees, isolated farmhouses, and the ochre hues of the clay. The Terre di Siena region is known for producing prestigious wines such as Brunello di Montalcino and the Renaissance town of Pienza, as well as for its thermal waters, such as those at Bagno Vignoni. You’ll enjoy walking the trails of these UNESCO-protected areas while reconnecting with the sounds of nature. We are firmly convinced that appreciating an area and exploring it at a leisurely pace, in the company of locals, is the best way to respect the lands we love.
At certain times of the year, you can enhance your experience by participating in a night tour of the monuments of San Quirico d’Orcia or the contemporary art festival Forme nel Verde.
WHERE ARE WE GOING?
Program
First day
Welcome to the heart of Val d’Orcia
The meeting point for the entire group is the hotel in San Quirico d'Orcia, in the heart of the picturesque Val d’Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Over the next few days, guided hiking tours will depart from here, taking us on a journey to discover Val d’Orcia’s most Instagram-worthy landscapes, such as the famous grove of cypress trees. Getting here is easy: instead of driving, you can take the train to the nearby Buonconvento station and continue by intercity bus. It’s a perfect blend of sustainable travel, nature, and tradition—the ideal way to fully experience the magic of Tuscany.
Second day
Amid iconic cypress trees and Renaissance villages
Discover one of Tuscany’s most famous landscapes on this group hike through the heart of the Val d’Orcia, or toward Pienza. We’ll walk along dirt roads and rolling hills to reach the little church of Madonna di Vitaleta, one of the most photographed spots in Tuscany.
Our easy hike will finally reach Pienza, where we’ll have time to explore the village and, if we wish, enjoy a well-deserved food and wine break to taste Pecorino di Pienza. Those who are tired can return by public transportation, while the rest can enjoy a pleasant walk back accompanied by the guide. At certain times of the year, after dinner, you can take a nighttime stroll among some of San Quirico d’Orcia’s most iconic landmarks, such as Horti Leonini and Palazzo Chigi Zondadari.
Third day
