Tenerife, as few have the privilege of experiencing it: an active vacation in the Canary Islands that combines easy hikes, biking, and guided excursions, designed for those who want to experience the island authentically, far from mass tourism. Every year, millions of people visit the island, but not all have the privilege of exploring Tenerife through this special program, accompanied by an Italian guide who has lived on the island for nearly twenty years. We’ll cycle along the coast past volcanic beaches and natural pools, hike through the lunar landscapes of Teide National Park—a UNESCO World Heritage Site—up to an altitude of 2,000 meters, and traverse historic trails like the trek from Santiago del Teide to Masca, immersed in the laurisilva, one of the last forests of its kind in the world. A week in Tenerife that rejuvenates body and mind, ideal for those seeking nature, a mild climate year-round, and gentle exercise: the connection withthe Atlantic, dinners at local restaurants, andthe seaside hotel in Playa de la Arena—with spacious rooms and hearty breakfasts—make the vacation even more special. This is the Tenerife that stays in your heart forever.
WHERE ARE WE GOING?
Program
First day
Arrivalat Tenerife Sur airport, ready to enjoy a vacation in the Canary Islands filled with hiking, biking, and nature. Independent or organized transfer to the hotel in Puerto Santiago, where we will meet our guide who will introduce us to the program packed with excursions that will take us along the coast, among volcanic landscapes and iconic places such as Teide National Park. The evening ends with a group dinner at a local restaurant, ideal for sampling the authentic flavors of Tenerife and getting to know your fellow adventurers. Thus begins your journey into the eternal spring of the island of Tenerife!
Second day
West coast by bike between ocean and lava
Today, the sun and the sea will be the starsof our bike tour in Tenerife. We will set off from the hotel on our bikes, with the option of renting an e-bike. We will ride along the west coast towards the seafront, the Paseo Marítimo, which will take us from Playa de Las Arenas to the fishing village of Alcalá, famous for its ocean pools carved into the rock, open to everyone. We continue cycling to Playa San Juan to see the old 19th-century lime kiln and visit the whale monument. We will have the opportunity to swim in the ocean, have lunch in one of the typical local restaurants, and enjoy the feeling of having stopped time. Back on our bikes, we return to Puerto Santiago for another swim in the sea or in the hotel pool.
Third day
Trekking in Teide National Park
Let's change course completely: we're going to the highest point on the island of Tenerife, the long-awaited excursion to the Teide volcano has arrived! At 3,715 meters, Teide is the third highest volcano in the world and the highest volcano in Europe. With our guide, we will follow a circular route that will allow us to be impressed by the magnificence of Teide National Park, reaching 2,000 meters of its 3,800. A shuttle bus will take us to the park entrance, where the Los Roques de Garcia trail begins. In front of us stand the two volcanic cones of Pijo Viejo and the snow-capped peak of Teide. We will walk along the trail inside the caldera and observe the point where the Teide cable car departs. The circular route comes to an end as we pass in front of "las cañadas del Teide" and admire the forest crown and, if we are lucky, the other islands of the archipelago in the distance. Before returning to the hotel to rest and take in the incredible landscape that has delighted our eyes.
Fourth day
The Camino de los Guanches
The day is dedicated to the Camino de los Guanches, an ancient aboriginal trail that connected Santiago del Teide to the picturesque village of Masca, in the northwestern part of the island and one of the most fascinating places in Tenerife. Tourists usually get there by car, but we will walk step by step, on an exciting guided trek, along the ridges of the mountains of the giants. Once isolated and difficult to reach, Masca was a safe haven for centuries, and it is said that pirates used it as a hideout. On the road we will take, we will observe the most spectacular horizons of Tenerife and enter a laurel forest, one of the last remaining on our planet. We will return to the hotel by transfer and get ready for dinner.
Fifth day
Trekking among almond blossoms and lava
We take a local bus to Santiago del Teide, the starting point for many trekking routes in the interior of Tenerife. After sampling a typical Canarian Barraquito coffee, we begin our trek along the path of almond blossoms, surrounded by enchanting views and unique colors. We reach the spectacular black lava flow of the Chinyero volcano, dating back to 1909, the first documented lava flow in Tenerife, and continue towards the volcanic sands of the Arguayo volcano, which offer breathtaking landscapes. We end the day by returning to the hotel by bus, satisfied once again with our adventure in the island's wild nature.
Sixth day
Along the coast of Punta de Rasca and
On the last day, we will enjoy direct contact withthe Atlantic Ocean, along the southern tip of Tenerife. Along the way, we will pass the Punta de Rasca lighthouse, and our guide will tell us stories and anecdotes that make it the most famous lighthouse on the island. Inside the protected natural park, free from buildings and mass tourism, we will walk along a coastal path created between the volcanic lava cooled by the sea and try to swim in the waves. But it will be above all the wild beach that will welcome us on our arrival that will leave us no choice: the callof the Atlantic will be irresistible. Ready for a dip? We will come out feeling refreshed and renewed, before having—weather permitting—a little more time to visit the village called "i biscotti" (the cookies), and then begin our return to the hotel.
Seventh day
It's time to head back to the airport, but this vacation in Tenerife, filled with hiking, biking, and exploring, will remain in our hearts. The volcanic landscapes, such as Teide National Park, and the spectacular coastlines have made every day an unforgettable adventure. For those who can stay longer, there are many experiences to enjoy: hiking in Anaga, a visit to the colonial city of La Laguna, or relaxing on the beaches of Las Teresitas. Tenerife has two airports: Tenerife South and Tenerife North. From Italy, there are direct flights only to Tenerife South Airport, which is close to the hotel where you will be staying. From Tenerife South Airport to the hotel, it is possible to arrange a private transfer at a cost of approximately €50 each way. Alternatively, taxis are available outside the airport and cost around €70. The journey by car/transfer takes about 30 minutes. It is also possible to arrive by public transport, but this takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes. JONAS' TIP! Flights to Tenerife can be expensive at certain times of the year, especially if you only consider direct flights. For this reason, we suggest you also consider alternative solutions, such as flights with stopovers, which often allow you to find more attractive fares and, at the same time, enrich your trip. If you wish, we can give you information and advice on how to organize your arrival or departure with a stopover in mainland Spain, turning your journey into an extra little experience. In these cases, we can take care of booking a hotel for an additional night, for example in cities such as Seville, Valencia, Alicante, Madrid, Barcelona, or Malaga. This is a smart way to avoid limiting yourself to direct flights, keep costs down, and make your trip even more enriching, without stress and with maximum freedom in choosing your flights.
